As part of our ongoing commitment to collaborating with local communities, Sanctuary Retreats Philanthropy has partnered with a rural village in Myanmar, Sin Kyun.
Working with the village Chief, Sanctuary Retreats Philanthropy have built much-needed community facilities including a house for teachers, a Middle School, and provided emergency assistance during severe flooding. The Sanctuary Ananda guides have also run a Summer English Camp for the students of the local primary school.
Sin Kyun has a population of just under 1,000 inhabitants and specialises in farming and hat making. Our guests witness first-hand the way of life in this unspoilt location seldom viewed by outsiders.
Following the village Chief’s request for accommodation for teachers and additional classrooms, Sanctuary Retreats Philanthropy, together with guests, donated the money necessary to fund the construction. So far we have completed construction of a house for teachers as well as three additional classrooms. This has allowed the children in the village to continue their education at the school until 7th grade, after which they must travel by boat to a neighbouring school.
With the support of Sanctuary Ananda guests, we will be able to provide further support to improve the quality of life of the villagers.
